A Study on formative expression of typography

- Focused on Han-Gul -

This age is called what is "age of information deluge". Every place is filled with information, thus designers search for the many ways available to communicate it. Letters are one of the oldest ways of communication in human beings' history.

But the expression of letters is suitable to change of age. In this age of information, letters must involve the function not only as verbal communication but also as formative. In Hangul, however, most letters have the problems of structure and phonetic symbol, which prevent their formative factor from representing.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility of Hangul recognition as formative language, by representing Hangul as an object of formative expression through the medium of cultural poster.

Additionally this study seeks for the concepts of typography, the possibility of formative expression, and, first of all this studies are based on the typographic design theories. We analyze the present situation of Hangul typography, pointed out the problem and suggested the alternatives.

Finally our works suggest possibility of new expression through Hangul typography expressed several cultural posters.
