A Study on the Editorial Design of hangeul Bibles-based on High-Teen's with Bibles-

The visual message which delivers information by visual is realized ordinarily through the prints. In the Mass Communication Age like the present time the printed matters have big influences on men, the subject of the reading. Among them, especially the visual side of the book must not be treated carelessly, viewed that it is the most concentrated, related to the deep thinking of the people, giving a continual influence. Therefore, the contents that the books intend to deliver must be delivered clearly to the readers with quickness, andshould be easy and comfortable to read it.

The Bibles have been read by many people to find the living value and to get a real truth, and the subscription of the youth level through new introduction of Christianity should not be disregarded, either.

Under such premise, this thesis referred to the experimental preceding study of home and abroad for the visual characteristics which can be utilized to the editorial design of this text of the Hangeul Bibles which can be utilized to the editorial design. Among them, some summaries which are considered to be the most important are abstrachted as shown in the following.

1.Type Size:

The letter size for this text of the 4·6print Hangeul Bibles is proved to be most suitable when it is 10 point, and for Hand Book or in case of the Bibles of type size(10x14.3cm)the visual element adjustment is required.

2.Type Face:

When the type face for this text of the Hangeul Bibles employs Semi Bold type, it can remove the confusion with the image the existing Bibles, and further can improve the reading effects.

3.Horizontal Vs. Vertical Reading:

Horizontal composition is more required in the Bibles for High-Teen's and even in the reading speed, it appears that the horizontal composition is faster than vertical composition in speed.

4.Line Width and Column:

In line width, 8~10cm is proved to be the best for reading, and the most suitable for 4·6print Bible, and it appears that horizontal 1 column is easy and comfort to read rather than vertical up·down 2 column.

5.Grid System:

For all printings, the time and expenses can be saved when this grid system is applied, and it can prevent tedious feeling from many readings by giving us various changes.

For typography element and design element required for poem composing of editorial design besides, the author referred to the results of study of 'Tinker' 'Paterson' 'Gibson' 'Hurlburt' 'Nelson' 'Ahn Sang-soo' and 'Suk Gum-ho' and others.
