A Study on the Mutual Competition between Broadcasters and Telcos

The purpose of this study is to present a principle of the competition between cable TV and telcos as a distinguished part of convergence phenomena of broadcasting and telecommunication. There were some papers which introduced the convergence trends but there were few study which analyzed the problem generated from converging process and supplied a remedy policy to that. Therefore, this study is focused on the fair competition between cable TV and telcos in the convergence process.
At first, in the viewpoint of vertical integration, I figure out the methods of fair competition of cable TV and telcos using the categories of network, service, and corporation integration. Second, in the viewpoint of horizontal integration, I analyze complex situation where diverse patterns of convergence take place in network, service, and corporation. In addition, I consider the real conditional limits of two industries. Finally I can figure out some principles of competition in consideration of a fair competition conditions and national competitiveness.
As a result, this study is expected to supply a good competition principle of convergence for the optimal efficiency of converging.
